Digital Fluency: Being bored comes in handy

Digital fluency should be an active part of a digital native’s lifestyle. From experience with digital technologies, I learnt basic HTML when I was young to create my own virtual pet page. This allowed me to understand the jargon later needed in the classroom and future endeavours online such as creating a customised blog.  In parallel to what Howell had presented in the ilecture for the week, this was more the case of trial and error through practicing with technologies especially when being self taught (2014). Nevertheless the basic digital skills should be learnt and eventually mastered for those individuals wanting to be employed in the globalised world (Manus, 2013).

The cycle presented above is what I would encapsulate when presenting skills appropriate for digital natives. The numerous opportunities should allow students to execute their skills as well as continue being an active participant with such tools presented below (Howell, 2012).

1 (McGrane, 2012)

“1” (McGrane, 2012)

      • Word processing
      • Presentation softwares
      • WebQuest
      • YouTube
      • Blogging
      • Spreadsheets
      • Scratch
      • MovieMaker
      • Mobile technologies e.g. iPad

These tools should provide multiliteracies suitable for an individual living in the digital world, thus enhancing digital fluency in all areas of the classroom and beyond.

The link below is an example of combining my digital fluency as a digital immigrant:
